The scientific name for goldfish is Carassius auratus. It was one of the earliest domesticated fish, and is still one of the most commonly kept aquarium fish.

Goldfish may sometimes grow to a maximum length of about 60 cm and a maximum weight of around 4-5 kg. Most goldfish grow to about half this size. In ideal conditions, goldfish may exceed 20 years in lifespan. However, most domestic goldfish generally live 6 to 8 years.
